Pediatricians Help Children to Get a Healthy Start

December 28, 2015 by Indian Crest Peds

One of the most important things parents do is to provide their children with preventative medical care. Regular checkups and on-time immunizations ensure that each child is properly protected. These appointments help to identify small concerns when they arise, making them easier to correct. For parents, pediatricians are a reliable source of advice on everything that involves the welfare of their children. This includes sleeping patterns, behavioral issues and healthy diets, and much more. Every child should begin seeing a pediatrician in Westminster or anywhere else shortly after birth and throughout their school years. There are many reasons why this is important.

The First Year

Several visits are suggested during this critical stage of the baby’s development. Doctors will look for common issues that occur during these months including signs of jaundice, infections of the ears, eyes or mouth and any concerns with diaper rash. They check for proper range of movement with the arms and legs, make certain there are no problems with feeding or digestion and weigh and measure to determine if the child is developing properly. Initial immunizations and booster shots will also be provided.

The Toddler Stage

Once children reach the age of two, they require fewer checkups. An annual visit is still needed and the exams will include everything that was done during the first couple of years, as well as the addition of checking eyesight, potentially suggesting bloodwork for lead levels and discussing proper nutrition. Skilled pediatricians from practices like Indian Crest Pediatrics will also be concerned with language skills, potty training and many other issues that help to gauge how they are growing and developing.

For Older Children

The need for pediatrics in Westminster does not end once a child is in school. Most experts recommend children continue to see a pediatrician until they reach at least age 18, potentially longer. Annual visits are needed, and pediatricians are capable of assisting with more advanced issues children face during this time including puberty, peer pressure and drug and alcohol education.

Preventative health care and regular monitoring are important all through life, but never as much as they are during childhood. Providing early and consistent health care during this time will help children to develop into healthier adults who are more comfortable and confident about taking over their own health choices later in life.
