After a long pregnancy, most mothers are left wondering how they will get rid of the belly. As their time is spent predominately looking after the needs of the new addition, they often neglect things they enjoy, such as trips to the gym and socializing.
Understandably, this situation can cause some frustration, but the good news is that this doesn’t have to be the case. In fact, there are many fun exercises to do with your baby in the comfort of your own home that will help you get back into shape while bonding with your little one.
Dancing
To get the heart pumping a bit quicker, try dancing with your baby. Babies love snuggles, and it is a great way to make them feel safe. While you are moving gently to the music, they will get to be close to you.
If your little one is in a bouncer or swing, you can dance around them. They will love the interaction, and you will get a light workout in the process.
Going for a run with baby
If you enjoyed cardio activities before your pregnancy, there is no reason why you can’t enjoy these activities with your baby when you take them out in their stroller.
Alternate between jogging and walking, and pause between each stage to do some stretches such as lunges or jumps. This is great as a light full-body workout, and your baby is going to be amused by the different kinds of stimulation.
Please note that this type of exercise does involve a bit of trial and error, so start with short runs in the park and make sure you set aside a time which will not interfere with sleeping and eating patterns.
Curls
There are many different kinds of curls that you can introduce as part of baby playtime, but the reverse curl is the one they will probably like the most. Lying on your back, raise your legs and bend your knees so that they move in toward your knees. Position little one on your shins, then lift your hips off the floor. From there, move your head up to meet your knees. This will create a rocking sensation that your baby will love, and you’ll get an excellent abs workout.
Planks
When it comes to toning the abs, the plank is a great exercise, and the great news it can be easily done during baby playtime.
Lie your baby down between your hands and then assume the position for as long as you can. During the exercise, you will be able to maintain eye contact with your baby, which is enjoyable for both of you.
Baby Press
This is a great one for mum and baby alike. Start by lying on your back with your knees bent, and your little one resting on your chest. When you are ready, raise your baby up, hold, and then bring him back to the starting position. Make sure you dispense with your game face and make this action as playful as possible.
This exercise will tone your abs and give your arms a good workout, and it is likely to bring a smile to your baby’s face as well.
